Frequently asked questions

What if I don’t have a friend to join with?

How many other people are thinking the same thing? 70% join on their own, and go on to make many new friends through Tae Kwon-Do.

What is the age limit?

There isn’t one! Tae Kwon-Do is for everyone and everyone is welcome! The TAGB has students ranging from 5 years old to 75 years old. A good friend of the instructors’ didn’t start training himself until he was in his 50s, and is now a 5th degree black belt.

What if I’m shy?

Tae Kwon-Do builds confidence. Beginners classes are designed so that no one feels left out or incapable, and you will soon make friends.

What if I’m unfit?

All the more reason to join! We build fitness up gradually so no one will feel out of their depth. You will be surprised how much fitter you feel after just a few months.

Do I need anything to start?

Not at all, just bring yourself down to the club and wear some loose clothing, joggers and a t-shirt are ideal.

How long will it take me to get a black belt?

The minimum training time to achieve a black belt is 3 and a half years. Some organisations and cowboy outfits will advertise that you can get a black belt within a year, or even less, but they do not learn properly and do not have the experience it takes to be a black belt. With the TAGB you can be assured that you are getting quality tuition, and regular gradings are held for the student to be assessed and promoted to their next grade.

There are coloured belt gradings every 3 months.

What does training involve?

Tae Kwon-Do training consists of exercising all the muscles of the body via practicing basic techniques, patterns and sparring. To aid the development of the body, muscle building and stretching exercises such as press ups, sit ups etc. are used.

Training is designed to challenge the individual. You will work to your own ability and try to develop yourself. It does not matter whether someone else is quicker or slower at learning, or is more or less fit than you, anyone can learn Tae Kwon-Do.

What do I need to wear when I start?

As a beginner you can wear a tracksuit, loose clothing.

How do I progress through the ranks of Tae Kwon-Do?

There is a high standard amongst the Tae Kwon-Do clubs in Mountsorrel and East Leake and the instructors, Wyndham, Jane and David Price, will put a student forward for a grading only if the student has reached the required standard.

The belts of Tae Kwon-Do are listed below together with the minimum training times required before a student can progress onto the next belt.
